Editing Process

The editing process this year was much easier than that during our AS coursework, I think that this was due to now knowing how to use Pinnacle Studio better as we are more aware of its functions, meaning everyone within the group had more experience and every ones skills had improved. Our knowledge of the camera and how to use the camera had improved, as well as the Edi role, had also improved meaning filming shot after shot was done with ease, there was no difficulty. which made the editing process a lot easier due to being able to insert each clip one after the other.
The main editing we had to do was shortening the clips, and cutting out sections we didn't think were effective or a good enough standard. We filmed a lot of different shots from different angles as well as close up shots and zoomed out shots so we had a lot of shots to choose from. as well as editing them shots we also had to put half of the clip at the beginning of the trailer and the other half at the end, like a stereotypical trailor meaning we had to insert the clip twice and cut it in the correct places.
Our filming schedule became hard due to realising that certain shots couldn't be filmed on certain days due to our groups commitments, as well as having to re shoot certain shots due to the first copies being unsatisfactory, meaning it meant us having to film in the final weeks. This was a slight panic however it meant we achieved good standard shots which made the trailer look more effective. it also meant we knew how to improve shots and what could be improved.

Throughout the editing process we struggled to find suitable music to fit the genre of our trailer, at first we wanted to get copy right agreements to use the Buddy Holly song 'Everyday,' we tried very hard to get this by contacting various companies. however this was not achievable meaning we had to find our own music. Our next plan was to create our own acoustic piece with a guitar and lyrics, this also became difficult due to none of us being able to play the guitar and difficulty finding someone we knew who would and that would also be prepared to help us. Eventually we used the site where we found a suitable piece of non copy right music called 'Gladsome Girl,' which suited our film well. However when it came to making the music fit our trailer so it wasn't unconventionally longer than it should be, as well as making the end part of the music fit with the "collision" we had a few problems which meant cutting and pasting parts of the music together, which was difficult to do so it flowed nicely. which meant having to do this a lot of times. We also had trouble when saving our work, as the music seemed to not save, meaning we edited the music more than once to fit the trailer which did take time making it flow. However when we eventually achieved, the music was effective and we were very pleased.
Our trailer titles come from the site http://www.dafont.com/and are the same titles used in the film poster as well as the magazine we wanted the film to be recognised throughout from the titles we used. We had to create the titles and copy them into paint, we changed the colour of them then saved them as a picture file which we then inserted into Pinnacle Studios. We also recorded a voice over which was recommended from the audience feedback, we decided on a male who could speak in an American accent due to our film being American making good continuity and a male being conventionally used for film voice overs so we then had to cut the voice overs and put the voice overs in the right places.
Overall the editing process flowed nicely and we didn't have any major problems, meaning we created a teaser trailer which fitted trailer conventions as well as being of a good standard. i am very pleased with our promotional package.
